Mr. Lonnie Corey Sr. of 336 Lonnie Corey Road, Washington, died Thursday, March 6, 2008.
A funeral will be conducted today at 2:30 p.m. in St. John Church of Christ (Disciples of Christ), Washington, with Elder Russell Wilkins officiating. Burial will follow in Pamlico Memorial Gardens, Washington.
Mr. Corey was born in the Big Swamp community of Beaufort County on May 10, 1939. He was the son of the late Lonnie Roberson and Hannah Corey. He was raised by the late Claudie and Maggie Peele. He attended the Martin County Schools. On June 8, 1957, he married, Annie Reddick Corey, who survives. He was a farmer and was employed by Weyerhaeuser Co. for 20 years before his retirement. He also owned a trucking business. He was a member of St. John Church of Christ (Disciples of Christ), Washington, where he served with the trustee board (he served as its chairman during the church’s construction), men’s fellowship, as the church bus driver and as a former choir member.
Survivors include two daughters, Glenda Corey and Brenda Peele; three sons, Lonnie Corey Jr., Henry Corey and Calvin Corey; one brother, Calvin Freeman; two sisters, Ella Reddick and Eva Speller; 12 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Brenda Jones, and two brothers, Charles “CB” Corey and “Bootsie” Corey.
The family will receive friends at the home.
