The BoCo (Beaufort County) Summer Concert Series ends Saturday with a performance by Asheville-based Uncle Mountain at the Turnage Theater in Washington.

The evening begins with opening songs by the band Koostic Thang of Wilmington, said Scotty Henley, executive director of the Turnage Theaters Foundation.

Then Uncle Mountain hits the stage.

Uncle Mountain is comprised of a trio whose members are Ryan Furstenberg, Ryan Lassiter and Daniel Shearin.

“They were able to parley their love for music and recording and found themselves … up at Appalachian State University studying to do the recording/engineering program,” Henley said. “It’s somewhat of a homecoming for them, and they’ve got a local following.”

Saturday’s songs should appeal to listeners who enjoy down-home tunes with a bit of an edge, Henley indicated.

“It’s a great combination of a rock overtone into a country-folk-type atmosphere, and they’ve got great vocal harmonies,” he said.

Uncle Mountain’s appearance is for the last of six shows scheduled as part of the BoCo series, which began in May.

The concerts have been a cooperative venture of the Beaufort County Arts Council, the Beaufort County Traditional Music Association and the Turnage foundation.

“I think it has built as the season progressed,” said Rob Cuthrell, chairman of the music association. “The shows have had better attendance as it’s gone along.”

Joey Toler agreed.

“I think it’s been a successful collaboration between the Turnage and the Traditional Music Association and the arts council, and I look forward to working with those guys down the line,” said Toler, executive director of the arts council.

“It did take a while to kind of grow that audience, but I do know that for every concert the audience was bigger each time,” Toler added.
