Mr. David Lawrence Newbern Jr., 55, of 110 N. Edgewood Ave., Williamston, died Thursday, April 10, 2008, at home.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday in Martin Memorial Gardens with the Revs. Jim Cox and Carlton McLawhorn officiating.
Mr. Newbern was born in Martin County on May 5, 1952. He was the son of the late David Lawrence Newbern Sr. and Louise Simpson Newbern. On Dec. 10, 2004, he married Jeannette Buck Newbern, who survives. He worked with the bridge department of N.C. Department of Transportation until his retirement in 1998.
Survivors include one son, Michael Newbern of Ayden; one stepdaughter, Sonya Harris of Greenville; three stepsons, Kevin Harris, Craig Harris and Gregory Harris, all of Shelby; and one grandchild.
The family will receive friends today from 7-8:30 p.m. at Biggs Funeral Home and other times at the home.
