Mr. Dallas A. Rodgers, age 84, a resident of 7325 U.S. Highway 264 East, Washington, N.C., Pactolus Highway, died Tuesday, April 15, 2008, at Britthaven Nursing Home of Washington.
A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 19, 2008, at Paul Funeral Home of Washington, officiated by Elbert Lilley, John Anderson and Lemuel Hardison. Burial will follow in Pamlico Memorial Gardens. Buddy Beacham, Greg Beacham, Mike Beacham, Kevin Ortiz, Gage Mizell, Melvin Woolard, Jim Coggins and Raul Ortiz will serve as pallbearers. Elders and Deacons of Tranters Creek Church of Christ will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Mr. Rodgers was born in Beaufort County on September 2, 1923, son of the late William Speller Rodgers and the late Rebecca “Becky” Ausbon Rodgers. He attended Old Ford School and served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II. Mr. Rodgers married the former Mattie Elizabeth Beacham on September 2, 1950, who survives. He was a self-employed farmer and a carpenter with J.L. Harris Real Estate Company in Greenville before his retirement. Mr. Rodgers was a member of Tranters Creek Church of Christ and a charter member of Pactolus Volunteer Fire Department.
Surviving along with his wife Mattie of the home is a daughter: Vickie R. Mizell and her husband Jerry R. Mizell, Sr. of Washington; a brother: Tommy Rodgers of Rockford, Ill.; three sisters: Lillie Woolard of Washington, Earlene Heath of Collegedale, Tenn. and Brenda Jefferson of Pinetown; three grandchildren: Jerry R. Mizell, Jr. and his wife Robbin, Elizabeth Mizell Ortiz and Jody Rodgers Mizell; four great-grandchildren: Kevin Ortiz, Gage Mizell, Dillon Mizell and Joseph Mizell.
The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Friday, April 18, 2008, at Paul Funeral Home of Washington and at other times at the home of Mr. Rodgers’ daughter Vickie located on, Pactolus Highway, 7333 U.S. Highway 264 East, Washington, NC.
