New component added to waterfront activity

Saturday Market unveiled a new component this weekend — the Tailgate Market.
The first Tailgate Market, with just a couple of “vendors,” featured sporting goods, marine-related equipment and bicycles. Miller said people selling items are asked to bring only items they would consider buying.
Washington resident Gil Leebrick was one of the people who was asked to pay $5 (to help offset Saturday Market expenses) for a parking spot from which to sell items such as a pelican hook, propeller and a guest battery isolator. Leebrick described most of his merchandise as “leftovers from fixing up good, old boats.”
Leebrick wasn’t too worried about sales being slow.
Tailgate Markets will not occur at each Saturday Market, which will be held from 8 a.m. to noon each Saturday through Oct. 18. The next Tailgate Market is June 21, followed by one Aug. 2. The theme for each of the remaining Tailgate Markets will announced about 10 days before the Tailgate Market is held.
Miller said Tailgate Market, held in a controlled parking area at the west end of Stewart Parkway on Washington’s waterfront, is a vehicle by which people may sell items they no longer need. All a person has to do to sell items at a Tailgate Market is to register as a seller and pay the $5 fee, Miller said.

Saturday Market also includes produce, plants, crafts and other items from area farmers and artisans.
