Mr. Joe Van Myers, 71, of 148 Ashland Church Road, Merry Hill, died Tuesday, May 13, 2008, at Pitt County Memorial Hospital in Greenville.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday in Riverside Baptist Church cemetery with the Rev. Woody Copeland officiating.
Mr. Myers was born in Bertie County on Dec. 30, 1936. He was the son of the late Jim and Ethel Miller Myers. He was married to Rosa Cale Myers, who preceded him in death. He was a former employee of N.C. Department of Transportation and retired from Smithfield Packing Co. He was a member of Riverside Baptist Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Amy M. Sullivan of Stoneville, and Penny M. Rogerson of Williamston; two sons, Joe Van Myers Jr. and Ken Myers, both of Merry Hill; three sisters, Virginia M. Oldham of Edenton, Bertha Ann M. Copestick of Rockville, Md., and Elizabeth M. Lewis of Tappahannock, Va.; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends today from 7-8:30 p.m. at Walker Funeral Home, Windsor, and other times at the home.
