Washington pitcher Josh Woolard will get to continue his education and playing career, as the Pam Pack hurler will be playing baseball for Lenoir Community College.
Woolard was the staff ace for the Pam Pack this season, and said he is excited to be playing for LCC.
Woolard has played for the Washington varsity team for three seasons, and was named the Trent Watkins Award winner in 2008.
Pam Pack coach Darin Vaughan said he was thrilled to see Woolard’s hard work pay off.
Woolard credited Vaughan for helping him learn the art of pitching.
While he says his curveball is his best pitch, Woolard said his style ranges between being a finesse-style pitcher and a power pitcher.
Woolard said the location of Lenoir played a big role in his decision to go there, as well as the school’s recent success.
Under head coach Stony Wine, the LCC Lancers finished the 2008 season as NJCAA Div. II College World Series runners-up. The Lancers finished the season with a 54-12 record.
Coach Wine was named Region X Coach of the Year for the fourth time in his career, as well as the Mid-Atlantic Coach of the Year.
The Lancers have performed well under coach Wine, and Woolard said he is happy to join a winning program.
While Woolard said he has not spoken to the coaching staff about playing time, the pitcher said he will be happy with whatever role they use him in.
The former Pam Pack ace said he is looking forward to the season, but said he wants to improve on some aspects of pitching before the season starts.
