Church to honor country

PANTEGO- Our nation’s holiday is fast-approaching, and with it comes the spectacle of fireworks, soaring music and, of course, backyard cookouts. This 4th of July, the Wilkinson Church of Christ in Pantego wants every American to remember how they gained their independence.
The church will host “Let Freedom Reign,” presented by “Living Flag 2008,” its annual Independence Day celebration of God and Country. The multimedia presentation will be showcased at the church, located at 141 Wilkinson Station Road, on Saturday at 8 p.m., Sunday at 3 p.m. and 8 p.m. and Monday at 8 p.m.
She believes the connection between God and country is clear, and the presentation re-affirms this.
The multimedia presentation features a slideshow, scrims (which are used for special lighting effects), choral performance and musical accompaniment.
The slide presentation coincides with the performance and features “pictures of America, its landscape and points of interest, and pictures of local members of the armed forces,” Baynor said. American landmarks spotlighted during the show include the Statue of Liberty, Mt. Rushmore and the Grand Canyon.
The highlight of the show is the salute to the troops, according to Baynor.
The “Living Flag 2008” choir, which features over 30 members, sings the anthem for every branch of the armed forces.
The church encourages veterans and members of the armed forces to come, and tries to be accommodating.
The presentation, which put on three performances last year, has expanded to four this year due to popular demand.
Even with an additional performance, Baynor expects a sell out crowd every time.
The show is put on, in its entirety, by members of the church.
The presentation lasts about an hour and offers free admission.
After each performance the church hosts a reception, welcome to all.
The multimedia show offers a lot of variety and is sure not to disappoint, according to Baynor.
