Mr. Thomas Edward Purvis, 91, of Robersonville, died Monday, June 30, 2008, at home.
A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday in the chapel of Biggs Funeral Home, Robersonville. Burial will follow in Robersonville Cemetery.
Mr. Purvis was born in Hassell on Jan. 27, 1917. He was the son of the late Andrew E. “Jack” and Effie Carlisle Purvis. He was a World War II veteran. On March 12, 1943, he married Hattie Lou Roberson, who preceded him in death Feb. 17, 2000. He was a retired farmer. He was a member of Stonewall Masonic Lodge No. 296 AF&AM and the Martin County Shrine Club. He was a member of Hassell Christian Church.
Survivors include one brother, Dalton Purvis, of Hassell.
He was preceded in death by four brothers, Davis Purvis, Gordon Purvis, Clayton Purvis and Earnest Purvis and four sisters, Aroline Roberson, Elsie Demoney, Mary Slade and Ellen Hornsby.
The family will receive friends today from 7-8:30 p.m. at Biggs Funeral Home, Robersonville, and other times at the home of Johnny Roberson, 21822 N.C. Highway 903, Robersonville.
