It may have only been a scrimmage, but Darius Murray showed flashes of brilliance.
The Northside sophomore could be a rising star for the Panthers. He may be young, but he’s ready to take on a veteran status.
Murray broke off a handful of long runs in Tuesday’s scrimmage at South Central High School. The Panthers took on the South Central Falcons, a Class 3A school, along with the Perquimans Pirates and North Pitt Panthers.
Facing off against live competition gave the Panthers a good look at how far they’ve come since the start of training camp.
Murray certainly had fun, especially when he was waltzing into the end zone.
Murray believes his team is moving in the right direction heading into the Aug. 22 season opener at Mattamuskeet.
Though he doesn’t have much varsity action under his belt, Murray is ready to hit the field for the Panthers.
While he expects to play a large role in Northside’s success this season, Murray knows he’ll be leaning heavily on his teammates.
The young running back is anxious for next week’s season opener against the Lakers.
The Panthers play their home opener Aug. 29 against North Duplin. Murray would love to see the stands packed for all the home games.
