JAMESVILLE -- Melody Jo Williams smashed a double to knock in Kendal Parent in the seventh inning, lifting Mattamuskeet to a 4-3 win against Jamesville in Atlantic 7 Conference softball action Thursday.
Williams also tripled in the game for the Lakers (2-1, 1-1). Parent led off the seventh with a hit before Williams smacked her two-out double.
Elizabeth Byrd picked up the win. She fanned three and walked two in seven innings.
Mattamuskeet plays host to Columbia on Thursday.

Lakers stop Bullets
JAMESVILLE -- Mattamuskeet gained an Atlantic-7 Conference victory by taking a 13-2 win against Jamesville in five innings on Thursday.
Marcus Gibbs picked up the win on the mound, and helped his own cause by collecting two hits. The Lakers scored six times in the second to take control.
Jamesville was led at the plate by William Brown and Steven Roberson, as both collected doubles.
Jamesville travels to Columbia on Tuesday.

Duke pitches gem for Bear Grass
BEAR GRASS -- Stephanie Duke fired a one-hitter on Thursday, leading Bear Grass to a 5-0 victory against Cape Hatteras on Thursday.
Duke fanned four and walked three in the complete-game win. The lone hit she allowed came in the second inning.
The Bears (5-1, 1-1) scored twice in the second and twice in the third. Duke led off the second by drawing a walk, then stole second and third. She came home when Krista Horn reached on an error, with Horn later scoring on a hit by Amber Everette.
In the third Lindsay Shaw smacked a triple and scored when Jamie Webb beat out an infield hit. Webb later scored on a single by Horn.
The Bears are at Creswell on Tuesday.

Bears fall to Hurricanes
BEAR GRASS -- Bear Grass lost its first conference game of the season, dropping a 5-3 decision to Cape Hatteras on Thursday.
The Bears (2-4, 1-1) took a 1-0 lead in the first over their Atlantic-7 Conference rival, but couldn't maintain the lead. Bobby Webb had three hits in a losing effort.
Bear Grass travels to Creswell on Tuesday.

Raiders tripped up by Albemarle
BELHAVEN -- Pungo Christian's softball team fell behind early and never recovered in an 8-1 loss to Albemarle on Thursday in Tarheel Independent Conference action.
Pungo (4-2, 1-2) got its lone run in the fourth inning. Anna Simmons walked, stole second and third and scored when Hunter Johnson grounded out to shortstop.
Albemarle took a 3-0 lead in the first inning off Pungo starting pitcher Allison Phelps, who suffered the loss.
Pungo's baseball team had its game called due to darkness. The game was tied 5-5 and will be finished when the teams meet in Albemarle later in the season.
Pungo plays host to Lawrence Academy on Tuesday.

Washington JV softball team wins
Washington's junior varsity softball team notched its fourth win of the season behind a solid pitching performance from Cameron Whitehead, taking a 23-0 win over Southside on Thursday.
Whitehead faced 16 batters and fanned 11 of them en route to the win. Deanna Staton paced the Pack (4-1, 1-0) at the plate by going 3-for-3 with a triple and three RBI. Jessica Harris went 2-for-2 and Fallon Johnson 1-for-2 with two RBI.
Washington plays host to Charles B. Aycock on Tuesday.
Pam Pack JV baseball team victorious
Josh Fulcher doubled home Dusty Duckwall in the seventh inning, capping off a big comeback for Washington's junior varsity baseball team in a 6-5 victory against Williamston on Thursday.
The Pam Pack (3-4) scored four times in the seventh to pull out the win.
Shane Motteler got things started by drawing a walk, while Sean Watts reached on an error. Dennis Butts then drew a walk. Motteler later scored on a passed ball to make it 5-3.
Corey Rogerson walked to load the bases. Duckwall grounded out score Watts, while Butts then scored on a throwing error to make it 5-5. Fulcher's double drove in Duckwall to end the game.
Rogerson picked up the win, going seven innings and striking out nine.
Washington travels to Charles B. Aycock on Tuesday.
Demon softball team stays unbeaten
The P.S. Jones middle school softball team picked up a 9-1 win against West Craven on Thursday.
Sam Houlon earned the win, as both she and the Demons are now 3-0. Houlon fanned nine and walked just one. She also went 2-for-3 at the plate.
The Demons scored three times in the first, stealing eight bases in the process. Rita Langston's team then swiped nine more bases in the third, as the team tallied four more runs to break the game open.
Marissa Fucito (3-for-4) and Kristen Holt (2-for-2) hit back-to-back doubles to get the Demons going in the third.
Other leading hitters were Heather Polk (2-for-2), Susan Braddy (1-for-2) and Johnna Bell (1-for-3).
The Demons play a doubleheader at home against Havelock on Monday.
P.S. Jones falls in baseball
P.S. Jones suffered a 15-8 setback to West Craven in middle school baseball action on Thursday.
The Demons (1-3, 1-2 Coastal Plains Conference) were within 10-7 heading into the seventh, but allowed five runs off three errors in the inning and couldn't recover. Trent Whitehead led the Demons at the plate by going 3-for-4 with three doubles and three runs.
Other hitting leaders were Jeffrey Boyd (1-for-2, two runs), Lee Watkins (1-for-4), Dean Smith (1-for-4), Billy Craig (2-for-3), Hardy Andrews (1-for-4) and J.D. Robinson (2-for-4).
The Demons play host to Havelock on Monday in a doubleheader.
Tiger track team does well
WILLIAMSTON -- Williamston picked up a triangular meet victory in girls' action on Thursday.
Williamston finished with 68 points, followed by Camden (61) and Perquimans (46). Latroya Bracey took first in the triple jump with a leap of 33 feet, five inches. It was also good enough to qualify Bracey for the regional meet. She also placed first in the 300 meter hurdles with a clocking of 51.48 seconds.
Quartissa Hagen took first in the 200 dash (21.59) and third in the 100 (13.4), while Cori Ritter was first in the 800 (3:39). Katy Bazemore took second in the 3200 (19:17) and 800 (8:19).
Also taking second for the Tigers were Shannon Mayo in the high jump (4-4), Geri-Lena White in the long jump (14-5) and 400 (1:11.65), Shonda Brinson in the 100 (13.4) and Cassandra White in the 200 (30.36).
Corvette Moody was third in the 400 (1:15.03) and fourth in the 200 (31.10), while Patrice Brown was third in the 300 hurdles (51.72) and fourth in the triple jump (23-0). Also taking fourth were Jackie Matthews in the discus (68-6 1/2), Yvette Nixon in the high jump (4-2) and Ashley Campbell in the 400 (1:18.8).
Williamston's 800 and 1600 meter relay teams took first, while the 400 and 3200 relay teams took second.
The Tigers travel to Edenton on Monday.
