Mr. Dave “Buddy” Young Jr. of 2597 Woodlawn Road, Roper, died Thursday, Aug. 21, 2008, at Pitt County Memorial Hospital in Greenville.
A funeral will be conducted today at 1 p.m. in First Zion MIssionary Baptist Church, Roper with the Rev. Wade Patrick Sr. officiating. Burial will follow in First Zion Grove Church cemetery, Roper.
Mr. Young was born in Beaufort County on Oct. 11, 1937. He was the son of the late Dave Young Sr. and Delphia B. Young. On April 6, 1957, he married Luberta Thomas Young, who survives. He had worked as a truck driver and auto mechanic. He retired from Plymouth Fertilizer Co. He was a member of J.J. Clemons/WCU High School Alumni of Roper. He was a member of First Zion Grove Baptist Church, where he served on the usher board.
Survivors include one daughter, Sharon Thomas of Plymouth; four sons, David Young and Ricky Young Sr. of Roper, Larry Young of Plymouth and Darryl Young of Greenville; 10 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one brother, Harold Young of Plymouth; two sisters, Easter Young Jenkins of Washington and Delphia Young Basnight of Roper and two nephews he raised, Milton Wilson of New York and James Thomas of Plymouth.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Jesse Keyes and Gertrude Riddick and two brothers, Roland Young and Harry Young Sr.
Arrangements are by Puckett-Purkett Funeral Service, Roper.
