The Goldsboro bats were on strike against the Washington Pam Pack softball team last night. Of the 15 outs recorded by the Pack, all were Jeri Bell strikeouts.
Goldsboro's only hit was recorded by Krystal Sauls, a single in the second inning. She was also the batter that ruined the perfect game for Bell in a 10-0 victory.
The Washington bats were awake early in the game. The first four batters scored as the Pack (4-4, 1-1 Eastern Carolina Conference) batted around. The biggest hit of the inning was a two-run triple by Bell, as she did what she could to help her own cause.
The bats were a little quieter in the second. The Pack managed only one run as Bell got her third RBI when she batted in Jessica Joyner.
Then Washington batted around for the second time as the Pam Pack added five more runs in the third to put the mercy rule in effect. The runs all came by singles and stolen bases, as Washington amassed four of each in the inning. The Pack even stole home plate twice.
All Bell had to do was retire the next six batters without allowing a run, and the teams would get to go home early.
Six batters and six strikeouts later, Washington closed out the game, and began to look forward to the difficult games ahead.
