Joseph D. “Mickey” Lamm

Mr. Joseph Donald “Mickey” Lamm, 75, of Chocowinity, N.C., died Sunday, Sept. 11, 2011, at UHS Beaufort Hospital.

A funeral service will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 14, 2011, at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory of Washington officiated by pastor Scott Setzer. The family will receive friends following the service until 9 p.m. Burial will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 15, 2011, in Black Creek Cemetery at Black Creek, N.C.

Mr. Lamm was born in Wilson County on Jan. 12, 1936, son of the late John William Lamm Sr. and the late Lucy Lucas Lamm. He was a 1954 graduate of Lee Woodard High School, Black Creek, N.C. Following high school, he served his country in the U.S. Army in the Airborne Paratrooper division, Green Beret in the Special Forces and N.C. National Guard for a total of 30 years. Mr. Lamm married the former Shelby Jean Woodruff on July 30, 1955, who survives. He worked with Carolina Telephone starting in 1956 and retired from Sprint as PBX Technician after 38 years of service. Mr. Lamm was a member of Washington Moose Lodge # 1800.

Mr. Lamm is survived by his wife Jean of the home; a son: Joseph Rand Lamm and his wife Barbara of Wake Forest; a daughter: Sandra Lamm Mayo and her husband Stanley Mayo Jr. of Grimesland; a sister: Dorothy McRainey of Wilson; four grandchildren: Trey and Tracey Mayo, Natasha Winstead and Brent Lamm and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sisters: Elsie Edmundson and Christine Lamm and a brother: John William Lamm Jr.
