COVE CITY — Virginia Russell Nobles Heath, 92, of 205 Railroad Street, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, September 3, 2008, at Craven Regional Medical Center. She was born on November 8, 1915, in Fort Barnwell, N.C., to Lizzie and Henry Russell. She was preceded in death by a son, Wiley Ray Nobles, and her husbands, John Wiley Nobles and James Whitford Heath.
She was a loving mother and grandmother and an active member of Cove City Free Will Baptist Church until her health declined in recent years. She was an avid reader and loved writing poetry, which was often printed in local newspapers.
Survivors include her two daughters, Elsie Whitford and husband, Frankie, of Ernul, N.C., Marilyn Quattlebaum and husband, Rodney, of Wagener, S.C.; her sons, Edwin “Buddy” Nobles and wife, Linda, of Chocowinity, N.C., Ronald Nobles and wife, Doreka, of Grifton, N.C., Joe Nobles and wife, Mary, of Cove City, N.C.; her daughter-in-law, Barbara Nobles of Grifton, N.C.; her stepson, Martin Heath and wife, Kaye, of Cove City, N.C.; 23 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren; her sister, Sadie Vandiford of New Bern, N.C.; her brothers, Grover Russell of Fort Barnwell, N.C., and Nick Russell of Grifton, N.C.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, September 5, 2008, at Cove City FWB Church with the Rev. Steve Petty officiating. Burial will follow in the Juniper FWB Chapel Cemetery, Piney Neck Road, Vanceboro.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday evening at Garner Funeral Home and other times at her home.
