Roland D. Rogers Sr.

Roland Donald Rogers, Sr. 79, of 113 Woodside Ave., Williamston, died Saturday, September 17, 2011, at his home. He was born in Martin County on October 17, 1931, son of the late Eli and Cennie Riddick Rogers, and he was predeceased by two sons, Roland Donald “Donnie” Rogers, Jr. and Steven Rogers; a brother, Clayton Rogers; and two sisters, Annie Mae Speller and Earlene Blackwelder. Roland was a retired heavy-equipment operator with NC Power and later with Stackhouse. He was a member of the First Free Will Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday September 20, 2011, at 2:00 p.m. at the Walker Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Ernest Jones.  Burial will follow in Martin Memorial Gardens.
Survivors include his wife, Maxine Roberson Rogers of the home; daughters, Melinda Whitehurst and husband Donnie, Judy Batts and husband Bebo, Susan Howell, all of Williamston, Amy Mohn and husband Mike of Summerville, SC; sons, Kenneth Marion Rogers and wife Kathy of Kill Devil Hills, Jeffery Rogers, Michael Rogers and wife Robin, Andy Rogers and wife Kristi, all of Williamston; sister, Evelyn Clark of Oak City; 20 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service (1-2 p.m.) at Walker Funeral Home Chapel and at other times from the home. Memorial gifts may be made to Community Homecare Hospice, 107 W. Blvd., Williamston, NC 27892.
