Mr. James Wallace Jr., 91, of 3300 McCaskey Road, Williamston, died Sept. 23, 2008, at Williamston Rehab &Health Center.
A viewing will be held today from 11 a.m. to 11:55 a.m. at Mount Shiloh missionary Baptist Church, 205 N. Elm St., Williamston. A funeral will follow at noon, officiated by the Rev. John K. Ponds. Burial will be at Woodlawn Cemetery, Williamston.
Born Jan. 16, 1917, in Martin County, he was the son of the late James Wallace Sr. and Annie R. Howell-Wallace. He was preceded in death by Rosa Lee Howard-Wallace and chairman of the deacon board of Lily of the Valley Baptist Church, Everetts.
He is survived by three sons, Brian Lee Wallace of Stokes, James Darrell “Dickie” Wallace of Durham, Jimmy Bryant of Greenville; four daughters, Carolyn W. Little and Gloria W. Williams of Williamston, Lila Wallace of Stanford, Conn., and Belva W. Greenage of Charlotte; four brothers, Jermiah, Earl and Bennie Wallace, all of Everetts, and Elton Wallace of Hassell; three sisters, Julia W. Congleton of Robersonville, Gloria Wallace of Everetts and Varah W. Hart-Clark of Charlotte; 20 grandchildren, including one, Barry Wallace Sr. of Newport News, Va., whom he reared as a son; 21 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Gertie Wallace; three brothers, W.C. Howell, and Murray and Williams Wallace; and a daughter, Barbara W. Alston
