On Sept. 8, investigators with the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office’s Drug Unit arrested Melissa Dawn Smith, 41, a resident of 3155 Respess Road, Pinetown.

Smith was charged with three separate counts of Level III trafficking in opium. Smith was confined in the Beaufort County Detention Center under a $5,000 secured bond.

Smith’s arrest stemmed from investigators conducting an undercover controlled purchase of prescription pain medication from Smith.
