Friday, Saturday and Sunday came and went fast for Cubs and Scouts at two camp outs for the respective groups.
Cub Scouts met at Hannah Bonner Cub Scout Camp for their Fall Family Camporee, where Cubs were allowed to bring their parents and siblings.
Boy Scouts met at Camp Bonner North in Beaufort County for their annual Fall Camporee.
The Hannah Bonner site and Bonner North are adjacent to one another on the north side of the Pamlico River, nestled along the banks of Broad Creek.
Cubs hiked to Camp Bonner North to see the Boy Scouts conduct a flag-retirement ceremony Saturday night.
The flag-retirement ceremony included hundreds of soiled and damaged U.S. flags that needed to be destroyed. A torch was lit and Eagle Scout Jacob Cannon ignited the flags.
Cubs and Scouts, along with parents, family members and public onlookers, witnessed the event. Keith Hardt led the Cubs while Bryant Hardison led the Scouts.
At the Cub Scouts Fall Family Camporee, Cubs participated in several events during their trip, including archery, flag craft and flag etiquette, steer roping, nature scavenger hunt, bird feeder craft, and capture the flag.
