The Pam Pack girls' soccer team dominated their Eastern Carolina Conference opener against Southern Wayne from start to finish, winning 5-1 on Monday.
The Pam Pack (3-4-1, 1-0) got on the board early as Emily Cochran scored an unassisted goal in the 10th minute. Washington never looked back and controlled the ball throughout the first period.
The Pam Pack took a 2-0 advantage in the 25th minute on an athletic goal by Sarah Allen. Allen was assisted by Caroline Jones.
Southern Wayne struggled to move the ball on a fierce Washington defense, which allowed just three shots on goal. Pack goalie Samatha Yates had two saves.
But, it was the Pam Pack offense that set the tone early in the second period. Karen Braddy scored on an assist by Kristen Whitehead in the fourth minute of the second 40 minutes.
Southern Wayne (0-6, 0-1) fell behind 4-0 after a goal by Amy McCutchen (assisted by Elizabeth Oden) in the 53rd minute before scoring its only goal. Freshman Lacre Lewis scored into the middle of the net with 26 minutes to play in her first career game. Lewis got the call-up from jayvee, replacing one of the regular Saint starters.
The winless Saints fell behind 5-1 with 14:20 left to play thanks to an unassisted goal by Mandy Gurkin. Broadhurst indicated after the match that the Pack was just too much for his girls.
The Lady Pack look to garner their first road win in the Eastern Carolina Conference as they travel to C.B. Aycock Wednesday.
