Mrs. Viola M. Martin, 91, died Friday, Oct. 24, 2008 at Leigh Memorial Hospital in Norfolk, Va.
A funeral service will be held Tuesday at Jamesville United Methodist Church at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in the Jamesville Cemetery.
The daughter of the late James A. Manning and Alice Brown Manning, she was born Sept. 27, 1917, in Jamesville.
Mrs. Martin graduated from Jamesville High School, where she excelled at basketball.
On Nov. 24, 1935 she married Georgie E. Martin, who preceded her in death in 1979. She was a member of the Jamesville United Methodist Church and the Jamesville Woman’s Club.
She is survived by one daughter, Faye Martin Mobley of Chesapeake, Va.; one son, Eddie Martin Jr. of Raleigh; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild and three brothers, George H. Manning of Virginia Beach, Va., James R. “Duff” Manning of Norfolk, Va., and Tom B. Manning of Framingham, Mass.
Mrs. Martin was preceded in death by her sisters, Leyta Faye Martin and Strelsa Griffin.
Visitation will be held Monday from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Biggs Funeral Home, Williamston.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Jamesville United Methodist Church.
