Ricky Gardner might be seen anywhere in Washington at anytime.
He is a man of action — seldom is he not doing something.
Gardner works in the BCDC vocational program making small parts for a production contract with Stanadyne Corp. in Washington.
Also in the vocational program, he has helped with a heavy-duty tire inflation gauge contract with the United States government.
When Gardner’s not working at BCDC, he works at The Meeting Place restaurant, where he helps to make muffins, washes dishes and buses tables.
Before his job at The Meeting Place, Gardner had jobs at Pizza Hut and Piggly Wiggly.
Gardner said he likes to ride his bicycle and that he uses it to get from his home to his work sites.
Besides work, Gardner said he likes to do other things.
Gardner has worked in the Knights of Columbus and ARC fundraising campaign where Tootsie rolls are given to shoppers.
Gardner is a participant in Special Olympics and was featured in a photograph of him bowling on the cover of the official guide for the North Carolina Special Olympics 2008 Midsummer Tournament.
In addition to bowling, Gardner said he likes to snow ski, play basketball and lift weights.
