An EastCare helicopter airlifts a man Tuesday from the campus of Southside High School. The man reportedly was injured when a four-wheeler overturned, coming to rest on top of him. The man’s identity and the extent of his injuries weren’t released Tuesday afternoon. The accident happened in the Bay City Road area, near Aurora, said Curtis Avery, Beaufort County fire marshal. Emergency personnel attended to and transported the man from the scene to Southside, and he was airlifted to Pitt County Memorial Hospital. The high school is sometimes used as a landing location for EastCare because of its open spaces, said Rick Anderson, principal. The Chocowinity Fire Department and emergency medical services were on hand at the school. (WDN Photo/Jonathan Clayborne)
