Ernestine Nichols Reeder

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. — Mrs. Ernestine Nichols Reeder, age 80, of Murfreesboro, Tenn., died Friday, Nov. 7, 2008.
She was born in Washington, N.C. and preceded in death by her parents, M.R. and Nellie Nichols of Washington, N.C. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, Glen P. Reeder.
Survivors include two sons, Kevin R. Reeder, his wife, Inez and granddaughter, Dennis Nunnally of Little Rock, Ark. Other survivors include her brother, Leroy Nichols and his wife, Erna of Washington, N.C.; sister-in-law Elizabeth Wilkinson of Nashville, Tenn.; several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Reeder retired as a professor emeritus from Middle Tennessee State University. She held a B.S. degree from East Carolina University, Ed. S. from Peabody College, and M.S. and Ph.D. from the University of Tennessee. Mrs. Reeder’s teaching included high school in Elizabeth City, N.C., East Carolina University in Greenville, N.C. and Middle Tennessee State University, where she spent the last 22 years of her teaching career, serving as a professor and chair of the Department of Human Sciences. She was an active member of a number of professional organizations at the state and national levels.
Mrs. Reeder was a member of the St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, where a memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 11, 2008 with the Rev. Gene Wise officiating, followed by a reception and visitation with the family.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Paul’s Episcopal Church or the Ernestine N. Reeder Honor Scholarship at Middle Tennessee State University.
Woodfin Memorial Chapel is serving the Reeder family.
