Mr. James Harrison Ghee of 2708 Old U.S. Highway 64 West, Jamesville died Friday, Nov. 7, 2008, at Washington County Hospital in Plymouth.
A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday in Promise Land Church of Christ (Disciples of Christ), Jamesville with Vice Bishop Anthony R. Terrell Sr. officiating. Burial will follow in Ghee Memorial Gardens, Jamesville.
Mr. Ghee was born in Martin County on July 16, 1927. He was the son of the late Bruce and Elizabeth Reddick Ghee. He was married to Virginia Lee Moore Ghee, who survives. He was a retired gardener. He was a member of Promise Land Church of Christ (Disciples of Christ), Jamesville, where he was chairman of the deacon board, Sunday school superintendent, Sunday school teacher and past president of the Fellowship of the Eastern N.C. and Virginia District Assembly.
Survivors include one son, Dr. Harry J. Ghee of Fayetteville; two daughters, Linda Y. Ghee of Greensboro and Lynette Ghee Collins of Jamesville; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and one sister, Lottie Alford of Brooklyn, N.Y.
He was preceded in death by two sons, Russell Ghee and Jerry Ghee; one brother, Grady B. Ghee and two sisters, Odessa G. Tyre and Mildred G. Tyson.
Viewing will take place today from 3-8 p.m. at Puckett-Purkett Funeral Service, Roper.
