WILLIAMSTON — For the last three years, Williamston golfer Faith Hardison has had to compete against boys because women’s golf is not offered at the NCHSAA Class 1A level.
Now, she’ll finally get the chance to show what she can do against her own gender.
On Friday, Hardison inked a National Letter of Intent to play women’s golf at East Carolina University beginning next fall.
Last season, Hardison was the runner-up in the Atlantic Conference Tournament and had the best 18-hole average of any area prep golfer.
Hardison had received interest from several schools, including North Carolina and Virginia, but in the end, she decided to stay close to home.
Hardison, the first Tigers golfer in school history to receive a scholarship offer, said that her goal for the first year is to break into the Lady Pirates’ starting lineup.
Jackson thinks Hardison should fit nicely into the Pirates’ lineup.
First, Hardison, who spent much of her junior season battling a nagging wrist injury, has her eyes on winning the Atlantic Conference individual title and making a run at a state championship.
