PLYMOUTH — Heavy rain fell as the fourth quarter came to a close, but for Southside the storm hit in the second quarter when failed scoring chances turned into momentum for Plymouth as the Vikings ran away with a 44-0 victory on Friday.
After beating No. 6 Manteo 24-22 on Monday, the Seahawks (3-3, 2-1) didn’t have the firepower to take down the fourth-ranked Vikings (6-0, 3-0) on Friday. Meanwhile, scoring wasn’t an issue for Plymouth as running back Carl McCray ran for 189 yards and two touchdowns to preserve the team’s undefeated record.
“No. 1, defensively, outside of a drive or two we contained them pretty good,” Plymouth head coach Robert Cody said. “We were able to get some turnovers which led to some quick points.”
Plymouth took a 6-0 lead in the first quarter when Quadre Pettiford returned a kickoff to the Southside 25-yard line and shortly after, McCray dashed into the end zone from a yard out.

Southside was on the brink of pulling even as it drove inside the Plymouth 10-yard line early in the second quarter, but a fumble, combined with some solid defense by the Vikings, kept the Seahawks from scoring.
The Seahawks fumbled on their next possession as well, only this time it was recovered by Plymouth at the Southside 7-yard line. Two plays later Devonte Bland rumbled across the goal line to take a 14-0 lead.
Plymouth would take a 22-0 lead later in the quarter as it stopped a Southside drive at their own 26-yard line and proceeded to drive 74-yards. That drive ended when quarterback Sharmontez Ferebee connected with WR Chris Rogerson in the right corner of the end zone for a 35-yard score.
“Better team tonight, absolutely they were, hands down they showed us who’s boss,” Southside coach DeWayne Kellum said of the Vikings. “Next for us, we show up Monday ready to practice and learn from the film.”
The Vikings added two more scores in the second half as Kendrick Pitt scored from four yards out in the third quarter, while Bland dashed in from five yards away.
