Mrs. Lillie Mae Winstead Windley of 72 Yonkers Drive, Washington, died Saturday, Nov. 22, 2008, at Pitt County Memorial Hospital in Greenville.
A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday in Metropolitan A.M.E. Zion Church with the Rev. David L. Moore officiating. Burial will follow in Oakdale Cemetery.
Mrs. Windley was born Aug. 6, 1926, the daughter of the late Rev. Claude and Goldie Roberts Winstead. She was married to Joe Davis Windley, who preceded her in death. She was a graduate of the Beaufort County Schools. She was a member of Metropolitan Fitness Walkers and Jeptha Chapter #1 Order of the Eastern Star. She was a member of Holley Grove Church of Christ (Disciples of Christ) and was under watchcare at Metropolitan A.M.E. Zion Church. She served on the usher board, missionary board and food committee at Holley Grove Church of Christ (Disciples of Christ).
Survivors include four daughters, Joyce Windley Beatty, Ann Windley-Freeman and Claudia Windley Hopkins, all of Washington, and Hilda Windley Holloway of Belhaven; one son, Claude Piles of Washington; nine grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one son, Claude Davis Windley; four sisters, Daisy W. Rountree, Goldie W. Daniels, Bernice Winstead and Claudia Winstead and one brother, Tony Winstead.
The family will receive friends today from 2-6 p.m. at Leon Randolph Funeral Home, 208 W. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, Washington. The body will be placed in the church one hour before the service.
