Pirates play last of five-game home stand

GREENVILLE — In the preseason East Carolina coach Mack McCarthy said he wanted to adapt the 24-hour doctrine applied by his colleague, and Pirates football coach Skip Holtz. The doctrine states that upon conclusion of a game, nobody is allowed to dwell, or revel in its outcome for more than a period of 24 hours.
Simply put, don’t get too carried away with yourself after a win, and don’t jump off bridge after a loss; just move on and focus on the next opponent.
For the young Pirates (3-1) today’s home match against VCU at 7 p.m. will be the first time they hit the court this season after a loss, and a chance to prove their resiliency.
Next up for East Carolina is Virginia Commonwealth University, a familiar foe for McCarthy, who coach the Rams from 1997-2002.
VCU (2-1) is guided by senior point guard Eric Maynor who leads the team with 21 points per game and 20 assists, along with junior forward T.J. Gwynn who is averaging 10 points per contest.
