Rebuilding is the key word for the Washington boys’ basketball team this season as it is forced to replace WDN All-Area first team forward Cor-J Cox, along with the Pack’s leading scorer in guard Daquan Daniels, whom both graduated.
In fact, Washington graduated all of its starters from its 13-10 team last year, a squad that finished third in the Coastal Conference and made it into the postseason.
Spencer showed promise last year, and improved his game as the season progressed. Lawrence said that Spencer, an athletic small forward, will be counted on heavily this season.
Helping out on the boards and in the paint will be newcomer Brandon Tripp. The center/power forward impressed his coach late last season, and should play a big role for the Pack.
Lawrence said with players like Spencer, Griffin, Ward and Moore, the strength of the team is on the perimeter, and that he hopes that can compensate for the team’s lack of experience.
With so many players new to the varsity team, Lawrence said he has simplified his defensive game plan.
Lawrence has also scaled down the offense, but said his team will utilize screens and back door cuts.
Lawrence will get to find out on Tuesday, when his Pam Pack play its season opener on the road against Greene Central.
