David Earl Alligood

David Earl Alligood, age 79, a resident of Franklin, N.C., passed away Tuesday, Oct. 4, 2011. A funeral service will be held at noon Saturday, Oct. 8, 2011, at First Baptist Church. The Rev. Joe Sustarsic and the Rev. Blake Arnold will officiate.
Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery with full military rites conducted by VFW Post 7339 and American Legion Post 108. Pallbearers will be members of VFW Post 7339. Grandchildren will serve as honorary pallbearers.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
David was born in Washington, N.C. He was the son of the late Allen Jacob Alligood and Elsie Sheppard Alligood. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Mildred Alligood Russ Canady. David was a U.S. Air Force and Army veteran. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service in 1990. He was Shriner and a member of the Scottish Rite in New Bern, Masonic Lodge 145, and a former Elks Lodge member. He enjoyed riding motorcycles. David was a member of First Baptist Church of Franklin where he was a deacon.
He is survived by his wife Ellen Jackson Alligood; a daughter, Debbie Land; a son, Blake Alligood and wife Wanda both of Franklin; eight grandchildren: Tanya Durant, Tammi Land, Marcus Land, Melissa Alligood, Joe D’Ascoli, Andy Alligood, Jessica Alligood and Rosemarie D’Ascoli; three great-grandchildren: Ashley, Brittney and Jake Durant; two step-grandchildren: Angie Mercier and Tiffany Sherwood; and several nieces and nephews.
