YEATESVILLE — Plymouth pulled out of the Washington Daily News Holiday Invitational late Friday morning, leaving Northside Athletic Director Keith Boyd scrambling to find an eighth team.
When he couldn’t find another varsity squad, he called upon the Northside junior varsity team to fill in for the Vikings.
Turns out these replacements can play.
The junior Panthers had four players reach double figures Saturday afternoon as they raced past Cape Hatteras’ varsity squad, 60-46, in the opening game of the 2008 Washington Daily News Holiday Invitational.
Northside was led by Taylor Woolard with 14 points, while Shaq Moore and Daveon Vareen each had 13 and P.J. Barrow added 10.
Christian Stowe paced Cape Hatteras with 13 points, and Acra Styon added nine.
Northside (5-2) will take on Pamlico County (8-1), which beat Creswell 75-40 in the winner’s bracket on Monday at 6 p.m. Cape Hatteras (1-8) and Creswell (5-2) will square off in the loser’s bracket at 3 p.m. on Monday.
