Southside, Creswell and Cape Hatteras win on final day
Seahawks survive a scare

YEATESVILLE — A tremendous second half by Southside’s big man Teon Aaron helped rescue the Seahawks from falling to Northside’s JV team on the final day of the Washington Daily News Holiday Invitational.
Aaron netted a team-high 16 points, all coming in the second half to lead Southside to a 58-54 win on Tuesday.
Swingman Willie Ruffin also poured in 16, and hit big buckets throughout the game, while Lonnie Williams added 10 to help the Seahawks (6-5) finish the tournament with a 2-1 record.
Panthers’ point guard Demont Harvey did his best to stun the varsity Seahawks, as he knifed his way to the basket at will and tallied a game-high 19 points.
Northside (6-4) finished the tournament with a 1-2 record.
Creswell bests Northside

YEATESVILLE — Ronald Best was hit on the arm while attempting a turn around jumper along the right baseline with 36 seconds left, but still managed to bank in the shot and hit a free throw to help Creswell top Northside, 63-58 on the final day of the Washington Daily News Holiday Invitational.
The Tigers’ junior forward didn’t enter the game until the final three minutes and his only three points came with the ball game knotted at 57-57.
Shivon Spear scored 15 of his team-best 17 points in the final quarter to help the Tigers earn the victory. Donvonta Phelps added 15 points and 10 rebounds, and Ralphon Owens pitched in with 12.
Kenneth Jenkins scored 24 points, including 14 in the final quarter to help keep Northside close. Isiaha McCullor added 19 points and six rebounds for the Panthers.
Creswell (4-2) finished the tournament with a 2-1 record, while Northside (4-7) went 1-2 during the three-day tournament.
Cape Hatteras holds off Terra Ceia

YEATESVILLE — Cape Hatteras fended off a feisty Terra Ceia squad to hold on to a 48-38 win on the final day of the Washington Daily News Holiday Invitational.
Hurricanes guard Isaac Copes led the way with 15 points, which were all scored in the second half to keep the Knights at bay.
The win was the first of the tournament for the Hurricanes, as they improved their record to 2-8.
After falling behind 19-10 in the first quarter, Terra Ceia got back on track for the next three.
Forward Hunter Davenport carried the Knights’ offense and scored a game-high 20 points.
