Sound Off highlights anonymous, brief takes on the news offered via telephone by Daily News readers.

If this country wishes to survive, we had soon better realize that we need to produce. All of our environmental groups, permits, crazy off-the-wall taxes and political protocol has made the U.S. incapable of being a productive producer. We handcuff all our manufacturers and drive them overseas so, in turn, we have to import our own products. It is not our factories’ fault. I am sure North Carolina will now have to even import tobacco.

Mosquitoes are plaguing Pamlico Village. It is unsafe to be outside. The ditches remain clogged by storm debris. Why aren’t prisoners working to clean up this mess? They are on taxpayers’ payroll.
