Major Leland Monroe “Lee” Heath, III, age 39, a resident of Bluebird Lane, Washington, NC went home to be with his Lord Sunday December 28, 2008 as a result of a tragic accident.
A funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Friday January 2, 2009 at the First Presbyterian Church of Washington officiated by Rev. Darrell Evans and Rev. Spotswoods Graves. Burial will follow in the Heath family cemetery at the family farm on Bluebird Lane.
Lee was born on August 6, 1969 in Lenoir County. He was a 1987 graduate of South Lenoir High School and continued his undergraduate education at NC State University. Lee then attended the University of Colorado in Colorado Springs, CO where he earned his Master’s Degree in Wildlife Biology. He married Lisabeth Josanne Saunders on September 20, 1997. Lee was an appraiser with Rasberry Shackelford and Associates and a Major with the U.S. Air Force Reserve. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Washington where he served as a deacon and worked with the children’s ministry. Lee was a loving husband, devoted daddy, wonderful son who loved his family and had compassion for everyone. An avid outdoorsman, he had a passion for hunting and loved his bird dogs and hunting buddies.
Surviving along with his wife of eleven years Josanne is a daughter, Elisabeth of the home; his parents: Leland and Joy Heath of Kinston and Connie Perry of Kinston and grandmothers: Joyce Avery of Kinston and Jennie Kivett of Atlantic Beach. Lee was preceded in death by his grandparents: Leland M. Heath, Sr., Elma W. Heath and Charles Avery.
The family will receive friends 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday January 1, 2009 at Paul Funeral Home of Washington and any other times at the home.
