James Marvin Hardison, 81, a native of Washington County and resident of 309A West Water Street, went home to join the Lord, January 4, 2009 as a result of a short illness.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, January 6, 2009 at Christian Hope Church of Christ, officiated by Minister Reggie Braziel, Ernie Williams and Larry Woodley. Private burial in Jackson Community Cemetery will follow the services with members of the church serving as pallbearers. The family will receive visitors from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Monday, January 5, 2009 in the fellowship hall of Christian Hope Church of Christ. Memorial donations may be made to Christian Hope Church of Christ, Long Ridge Road, Plymouth, NC 27962.
James was born October 3, 1927 the son of Joseph Hoyt and Della Chambers Hardison. He was married to Clara Gurganus, who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his step brother, Eugene E. Padgett. He was a retired manager of True Temper Handle mill (32 years), and the Department of Transportation. He was a longtime member of Christian Hope Church of Christ where he served as Sunday School Superintendent and in other ministeries over the years. He was much loved by everyone. James was also one of many who, although underage, (14 years old) enlisted in WWII, and was involved in the African Campaign before being discharged in late 1943.
He is survived by his half sister, Kay Waters Rollings of Jamesville; half brothers, Joby H. Hardison of Plymouth, Gary B. Hardison of Gastonia, Mike D. Hardison of Jamesville, Virgie L. Hoggard of Murfreesboro; step sister, Mary Bell Modlin of Jamesville.
