The Beaufort County Board of Education will hold a public hearing on the redrawing of school board district lines at 6:30 p.m. Monday at the Washington High School Performing Arts Center.

“The public is encouraged to attend,” reads a news release from the school system.

“According to Federal Courts and North Carolina General Statutes, the population of election districts must be reviewed following each federal census and lines must then be adjusted if the districts are out of balance,” the release reads. “This process is now under way for the Beaufort County Board of Education districts.”

The board has yet to approve any redistricting plan.

Once approved, the plan will be used in next year’s school board elections.
