Mr. Earl Hampton Waters Sr., 77, of 460 Croatan St., Belhaven, died Sunday, Jan. 4, 2009, at Pungo District Hospital in Belhaven.
A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday in St. James Episcopal Church, Belhaven, with the Rev. James H. Lupton officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow in Pamlico Memorial Gardens in Washington.
Mr. Waters was born in Beaufort County on Jan. 18, 1931. He was the son of the late Nurnie Hertford Waters Sr. and Cora Elizabeth Boyd Waters. He attended Washington High School. He served in the Air Force during the Korean War and the Vietnam Conflict and taught airmen with flight simulators before retiring as Tec Sergeant with 20 years of service. On June 26, 1954, he married the former Mary Rager, who survives. After his military career, he worked as a manager at Brookhaven Enterprise in Cuming, Ga., and again retired in 1996, moving back to Beaufort County. He was a member of St. James Episcopal Church, Belhaven.
Survivors include three daughters, Marleen Moore of Williamston, Jacquelyn Davy of Columbia, S.C., and Valerie Florence of Hiarm, Ga.; one sister, Gladys W. Carrow of Washington; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one son, Earl H. Waters Jr. in 1974; one brother, Nurnie Waters Jr. and one sister, Ruth Osborne.
The family will receive friends today from 7-8:30 p.m. at Paul Funeral Home, Belhaven, and other times at the home.
