WDN observingits centennialduring this year

The Washington Daily News kicks off its observance of its 100th anniversary this year with a retrospective column by John Morgan, a former sports editor at the newspaper.
Morgan takes a long look back at his role at the newspaper, his days and nights helping put together articles that told the stories of Washington, Chocowinity, Pinetown, Belhaven, Bath, Aurora, Pantego, Old Ford, Pamlico Beach and other communities in the region.
The newspaper plans to run similar retrospective columns about the newspaper on a regular basis this year, columns written by former employees and others with ties to the publication. During the year, articles about the newspaper’s 100 years and details about special events to celebrate the newspaper’s centennial will be published.
Betty Mitchell Gray, one of the two reporters whose articles resulted in the Washington Daily News winning the Pulitzer Prize for meritorious public service in 1990, is scheduled to write a column about and her remembrances of working at the newspaper.
