Accepts a positionwith sheriff’s office

Claud Hodges, a longtime Washington Daily News reporter who capped his second stint at the newspaper as newsroom manager, has left the newspaper to work for the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office.
As newsroom manager, Hodges oversaw the Washington Daily News’ transition to a stronger local focus, which was part of a shift aimed at better serving the paper’s readers as the news market evolves.
A Washington native, Hodges also oversaw the newsroom for the transition from in-house printing to contract printing in Greenville, a shift that involved changes in the way the newsroom prepares pages for production.
McKeithan cited Hodges’ ties in the community as part of what made him valuable in the newsroom.
Hodges, a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, will work with communications in the sheriff’s office.
The switch isn’t a huge shift for Hodges, who spent much of his time at the Daily News covering local law-enforcement agencies.
Hodges said he wishes the newspaper the best.
