Mrs. Clarise Wilkins Jones, 90, of 9017 N.C. Highway 32 North, Roper, died Thursday, Jan. 8, 2009, at home.
A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday in Mt. Eprew Missionary Baptist Church, Roper, with the Rev. James W. Harris officiating. Burial will follow in Wilkins family cemetery, Roper.
Mrs. Jones was born in Roper on May 1, 1918. She was the daughter of the late Maggie and Thomas Wilkins. She was married to George Jones, who preceded her in death. She had worked as a clerk at Macy’s Department Store. She was a member of Mt. Eprew Missionary Baptist Church, where she was a Sunday school teacher, choir member, women’s auxiliary secretary and member of the adult choir.
Survivors include one sister, Wessa Stokes of Roper.
She was preceded in death by four sisters, Edna Baker, Tyress Keyes, Gloria Davenport and Willie Mae Winfield; and four brothers, E.V. Wilkins, Riddick Wilkins, T.A. Wilkins and Rudolph “Skip” Wilkins.
The family will receive friends today from 5-8 p.m. at Puckett-Purkett Funeral Service, Roper.
