Mr. James Patterson McRae, III, age 69, a resident of 4596 Our Place Lane, Washington, died Thursday, January 22, 2009 at the Beaufort County Medical Center.
Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, January 24, 2009 at Paul Funeral Home of Washington and will be conducted by Pastor Travis Boyd.
Mr. McRae was born in Mecklenburg County on March 6, 1939 to the late James Patterson McRae, Jr. and Stella Norman McRae. He was a graduate of Laurinburg High School and earned degrees from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and also from the University of North Carolina at Pembroke. On June 30, 1985 he married Ursula Faust who survives. Mr. McRae was a self employed farmer, artist and carpenter. He was a very happy man who loved life to the fullest and especially loved to work with his hands. In recent years he enjoyed raising vegetables and selling them at the Pitt County Farmers Market in Greenville.
Survivors include his wife Ursula McRae of the home; his children, Peter McRae and wife Lisa of Charlotte, Daniel McRae and wife Tracy of Greensboro, Mary Peace McRae and husband Tom Summers of Kansas City, MO, Susan Moss and husband Stephen of Norwood, NC, Stephen Morgan and wife Lynn of Knightdale; his sister, Robin Bunch and husband Jim of Washington; 11 grandchildren and his best buddy, Junior.
The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. Saturday, January 24, 2009 at Paul Funeral Home of Washington prior to the service and other times at the home.
Memorials in lieu of flowers may be made to the Marion L. Shepard Cancer Center, General Fund, 1209 Brown St., Washington, NC 27889.
