Mrs. Leona Kite Mills, 84, of Black Jack, died Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2009.
A funeral will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Saturday in the chapel of Wilkerson Funeral Home, Greenville, with the Rev. Phillip Boykin officiating. Burial will follow in Pinewood Memorial Park.
Mrs. Mills was the daughter of the late Lacy and Bessie Kite. She lived her early life in the Vanceboro community and had made her home in the Black Jack community since 1942. She was married to Plum Mills, who preceded her in death in 1986. She was employed as a manager of Larkin Dees Clothing Store for a number of years. From 1977 until 2003, she operated Mills Upholstery near Galloway’s Crossroads. She was a member of Black Jack Free Will Baptist Church, where she sang in the choir, was a member of the Julia Smith Sunday School Class, served in the ladies auxiliary and on several committees.
Survivors include three sons, John Lacy Mills of Grimesland, Donald Mills of Vanceboro and Harold Mills of Greenville; one daughter, Jean Mills Evans of Grimesland; six grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; five great-grandchildren; six stepgreat-grandchildren; four sisters, Lillie Buck, Betty Worthington, Annie May and Beck Gray, all of Greenville, and four brothers, Jack Kite and John Kite, both of Greenville, Robert Kite of Grimesland and Dick Kite of Chattanooga, Tenn.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Mary Brinson and two brothers, Guy and Buck Kite.
The family will receive friends Friday from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at Wilkerson Funeral Home, Greenville, and other times at the home of her daughter, 2492 Mobley’s Bridge Road, Grimesland.
