Mrs. Marcia Rodman Lawrence

Mrs. Marcia Rodman Lawrence, age 85, of 101 Heritage Drive, Washington, died Wednesday, February 18, 2009 at her home.
Born Marcia Blount Rodman, the 3rd child of William Blount Rodman and Helen Farnell Rodman, she grew up on West Main Street in Washington. She attended St. Mary’s in Raleigh and was a graduate of Hood College in Frederick, MD. Marcia worked as a medical technician in the Philadelphia Naval Hospital as part of the war effort in 1945 and 46.
In 1947, she married the late George E. Lawrence of East Main Street, Washington upon his return from service with the Marine Corps during the Pacific war. Marcia spent the next 25 years accompanying her husband in his career as a Marine Officer, living all over the world.
Marcia and George retired to Washington in 1972 to renew childhood friendships and enjoy life on the Pamlico River that they so loved. Marcia became active in St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, where she had been baptized as a child, serving the church as a member of ECW, teaching Sunday School and enjoying a membership in The Altar Guild. She was also a member of the Washington Yacht and Country Club, the O. Henry Book Club, and the Washington Park Garden Club.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her three brothers, and her sister.
Marcia is survived by her three sons, George Lawrence and his wife, Jeanie of Pittsboro, NC, William Lawrence, also of Pittsboro, and Edward Lawrence and his wife, Karen of Marietta, GA. She was the proud grandmother of Conner, Hannah, and Hailey Lawrence of Pittsboro, and Nathan Lawrence of Boston, MA. Mrs. Lawrence was also the very fond aunt of Marci Dunn of Washington, and Holly Hill of California.
Her family and friends will miss her greatly, will treasure her memory, and feel privileged to have been part of her life.
A memorial service will by held at 2 p.m., Sunday, February 22, 2009 at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church with the Rev. Kevin Johnson officiating. A reception for family and friends will be in All Saints Hall at St. Peter’s following the service. Burial will follow in Oakdale Cemetery.
