WILLIAMSTON — Albert Earl Roberson Sr., 89, was called home to be with his Lord on February 19, 2009. He went peacefully from his earthly home, where he was surrounded by his loved ones and caregivers. A graveside service will be held Sunday, February 22 at 2 p.m. at Martin Memorial Gardens.
Albert was born on August 23, 1919 to Noah P. and Annie Roberson. He was the eldest son out of a large family. He proudly served his country during World War II, serving with the U.S. 8th Army Air Corps in the European Theater.
Upon returning from Europe, Albert married Mattie Lou Keel; they have one son, Albert Earl Roberson Jr. They shared a happy life together, until Mattie Lou was called home to be with her Lord in January 1979.
Albert spent most of his early life farming and later became an electrician. He worked construction projects for a time and was later employed at Martin General Hospital as a maintenance supervisor. He retired from that position.
After his retirement, he married his childhood sweetheart, Mabel Wynne Cullipher. They have spent the last twenty-two years together.
Albert was a member of Skewarkee Masonic Lodge No. 90 and the Shriners. He was also a quiet person that would help someone in need.
Survivors include Mabel Wynne Roberson of the home, son Albert E. Roberson Jr. and wife Sharon, grandchildren Noah, Caleb and Hannah of Williamston, a sister Janie Protzman of West Virginia, stepsons Ervin Ray Cullipher and wife Mary of Virginia and Kenneth Cullipher and wife Lynda of Charlotte, a step daughter Margaret Schweer and husband Larry of California and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to wife Mattie Lou Roberson and parents Noah P. and Annie Roberson, he was preceded in death by eight sisters; Beulah Sadler, Mae Babb, Kathryn Byrum, Viola Matejeck, Ollie Askew, Sally Heafner, Alice Faye Weindel, Christine Nooney and three brothers; Harmon Roberson, Noah Saunders Roberson and Jerry Eason Roberson.
Visitation will be held Saturday evening 7-9 at Biggs Funeral Home and a graveside service will be conducted Sunday at 2 p.m. at Martin Memorial Gardens. Officiating the service will be Rev. Mike Askew, a nephew and Pastor Larry Gilbreath of Reddick’s Grove Baptist Church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Roanoke Home Care and Hospice or a Church of your choice.
