Plymouth, Roanoke, Creswell advance in playoffs

Cameron Chesson scored 12 points and DeShawn Allen added 11 to lead Plymouth past Mattamuskeet with a 59-57 victory on Monday night.
David Grays had a game-high 19 points and Keith Drasts added 11 for the Lakers.
The Vikings (13-7) will travel to West Columbus for their second round playoff game on Wednesday, while Mattamuskeet ends its season with a 16-5 record.
Roanoke 85, East Carteret 62
Roanoke had four guys score double-figures Monday night as it rolled past East Carteret 85-62 in the first round of the NCHSAA Class 1A State Basketball Tournament.
Aaron Oden scored 18 points, Aaron Baker and Tyreek Cooper each had 16 and Amos Perkins netted 14 to lead the Redskins into Wednesday’s second round.
Roanoke (15-12), the top seed from the Atlantic Conference, will host Creswell (21-5), the second-place finisher from the Tideland Athletic Conference at 7 p.m.
Creswell 53, Louisburg 49
The Tigers picked up their 21st win of the season and advanced to Wednesday’s second round with a 53-49 triumph over Lousiburg.
Perquimans 49, Northside 38
Northside’s state playoff run came to an end in Monday’s tournament opener as the Panthers fell to Albemarle Conference foe Perquimans, 49-38.
The Panthers, the No. 3 seed from the Atlantic Conference, end their season with a 10-16 record, while the Pirates (17-7) will travel to Weldon (24-1) for a second round contest on Wednesday.
Weldon 83, Jamesville 37
Weldon, the Tar Roanoke Conference champions, made quick work of the Bullets (8-13), rolling to an 83-37 win.
