Linwood E. Cox

Mr. Linwood Eugene “Gene” Cox, 74, a resident of 3182 Cherry Run Road, Washington, died Thursday, Oct. 27, 2011, at University Health Systems-Beaufort Hospital.

The family will receive friends from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. Sunday at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory of Washington.

Mr. Cox was born in Pitt County on March 18, 1937, to the late Herman Hugh Cox and Lossie Leggett Cox. He had served in the U.S. Navy Reserve. Mr. Cox was retired from National Spinning Company with over 30 years of service. He also worked as a driver for the Dr. Pepper plant. On Aug. 30, 1957, he married the former Betty Louise Tetterton, who survives.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Cox is survived by his children: Billy Eugene Cox and Sherry Ann Cox Bostic both of Washington, and Timothy Cox and wife Gail of New Bern; a brother, Floyd Douglas Cox of Washington; and a step-grandson, Stephan Charles Cable Jr. of New Bern.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Cox is preceded in death by two brothers: Ray Cox and Dallas Cox; and two sisters, Evelyn Garrett C. Lyons and Valdene C. Hales.
