Mrs. Evelyn Purdence Peele Edwards, 81, formerly of Lewiston-Woodville, died Sunday, March 1, 2009, at Haven in Highland Creek in Charlotte.
A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday in Hoggard Memorial Cemetery in Lewiston-Woodville with the Rev. Bill Grisham of First Baptist Church, Rocky Mount, officiating.
Mrs. Edwards was born in Lewiston on June 8, 1927. She was the daughter of the late John and Layla Peele. She attended Meredith College and graduated from East Carolina Teachers College. She was a school teacher. She was married to Charles Edwards, who preceded her in death.
Survivors include one sister, Dorothy “Dot” Peele of Blue Bell, Pa.; three children, Richard Edwards of Raleigh, Bob Edwards of Davidson and Belinda Edwards Sellers of Pittsboro and eight grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Shirley Peele Patrick.
The family will receive friends following the graveside service in the fellowship hall of First Baptist Church, Lewiston.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the charity of one’s choice.
