Mr. Garland Floyd Sr., 74, of 23 Church Lane, the Acre Station community, Plymouth, died Friday, Feb. 27, 2009, at Pitt County Memorial Hospital in Greenville.
A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday in Mount Calvary Church of Christ (Disciples of Christ) with Elder Earl Morgan officiating. Burial will follow in Broad Creek Community Cemetery, Pantego.
Mr. Floyd was born in Beaufort County, Feb. 11, 1935. He was the son of the late Henderson and Sylvia R. Floyd. He attended Beaufort County schools. He was married to Janice Woolard Floyd, who survives.
Survivors include four daughters, Lisa Floyd, Rhonda Griffin and Nerissa Cobb, all of Washington, and Demishia Woolard of Greenville; seven sons, Garland Floyd Jr. and Reginald Floyd, both of Stokes, Elmer Floyd and Donnell Floyd, both of Farmville, Rudolph Floyd of Texas, Michael Floyd of Kansas and Brandon Floyd of Greenville; two sisters, Stella Clark of Washington and Esther Newton of Connecticut; four brothers, David Floyd and Charles Floyd, both of Washington, Willie Floyd of Winterville and Larry Floyd of Connecticut; 30 grandchilden and 17 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Nina F. Grimes.
A walk-in visitation will be held today from 1-6 p.m. at Whitfield &Whitley Funeral Home, Washington.
