Mr. John Thomas “J.T.” Griffin, 81, of 5567 Fire Dept. Rd., Williamston, died Wednesday, March 4, 2009, at Beaufort County Medical Center.
A funeral will be conducted Saturday, March 7, 2009, at 2 p.m. in Maple Grove Christian Church with Jay Hardison and Richard Smartnick officiating. Burial will follow in Hardison Mill Cemetery.
Mr. Griffin was born in Martin County on Nov. 28, 1927. He was the son of the late Dawson and Tillie Roberson Griffin. On Sept. 29, 1951, he married Margaret R. Griffin, who survives. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Air Force. He worked with the federal government as a tobacco inspector until his retirement. He was a member of Maple Grove Christian Church.
Survivors include one sister, Tillie Gray Griffin of Williamston.
He was preceded in death by three sisters, Bessie Dowdy, Viola Lilley and Tillie Icelene Griffin and seven brothers, Noah Daniel Griffin, Andrew Griffin, Jesse Griffin, Hugh B. Griffin, Carroll Griffin, Staton Griffin and Henry Griffin.
The family will receive friends Friday from 7-8:30 p.m. at Maple Grove Christian Church and other times at the residence.
Arrangements are by Biggs Funeral Home.
